Live Music – Sonja Florman, Jazz Piano

December 9, 2021 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Our Live Music Series continues!  Up this week – Sonja Florman

Sonja Florman is a jazz pianist, singer and accordionist. She began studying piano at the age of 5 in Louisville, Kentucky. (Growing up, she made music with her brother, Charles Ferris, professional trumpeter of Fanfara Station.) She received her B.A. in Music from Yale University where she studied classical piano, sang a cappella and studied pre-med. After receiving her M.D. from the University of Louisville School of Medicine, she practiced medicine in Vermont and Maine and raised three children on a farm in Windham, Maine. She began studying the accordion later in life after having discovered Gypsy Jazz. She now plays music with her two Portland-based bands. Sonja and Good Friends is a groovy 5-piece that plays the “Top 40 of the 20th Century” from Funky Jazz, Soul and Latin to Vintage Pop. Blue Fuse Jazz is an acoustic quartet of Gypsy Jazz musicians that loves to swing, cha cha and play Brazilian bossas. When not playing the piano or accordion, she can be easily spotted as the musical mom, either singing, harmonizing, writing musical charts, talking jazz harmony or reminding her children to practice their instruments.
